Maersk opens its largest logistic park in Middle East
NewsMaersk and Mawani opened the Middle East’s largest Maersk Logistics Park at Jeddah Islamic Port, featuring eco-friendly technology and extensive capacity.
As part of its strategy to facilitate trade growth in the Middle East region and generate additional cargo volumes at the port of Khalifa, Abu Dhabi Ports (ADP) has established a common-user feeder company.
It also believes the move will help improve Khalifa’s overall connectivity and reduce shipping costs for many of its customers.
“The launch of Safeen Feeders significantly strengthens our ability to enhance the competitiveness of our growing base of global customers, and helps our region meet international demands as a trade and logistics hub connecting east and west,” explained Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, group CEO of ADP.
“With the addition of the new service, our shipping clients can expect efficient and cost-effective transhipment feeder solutions with ever-expanding regional and international reach and connectivity. These two elements are absolutely vital in today’s increasingly competitive international trade environment.”
It should be noted that DP World, which operates Jebel Ali, has purchased several feeder and intra-regional shipping lines over the past two years.
Safeen Feeders will launch its first service in late June, and it will be operated jointly with Singapore-based Bengal Tiger Line (BTL). The weekly pendulum link will call directly at Khalifa, Jebel Ali, Karachi, Kandla, Mundra, Nhava Sheva, Khalifa, Jebel Ali, Khalifa Bin Salman Port (Bahrain), Dammam, Jubail and return to Khalifa. Three vessels capable of loading 2,700 TEU will be deployed.
“In the medium term, ADP and BTL expect to expand the service to ports in the broader Gulf region,” said Shamisi. “Over the long term, the new company will explore further service opportunities at container terminals in the Red Sea and East Africa regions.
