Getting the wind up

In-Depth

Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa has commissioned Eurogate Container Terminal Bremerhaven (CTB) to handle six 2 MW onshore wind turbines.

The tower sections, nacelles and hubs were delivered to CTB Bremerhaven from Avilés aboard SLOMAN PROVIDER, and will be followed by delivery of the rotor blades by VECTIS EAGLE from Tianjin. The oversized wind turbine components will be stored at the terminal prior to being shipped by road on special transporters to Horst, near Schneverdingen in Lower Saxony.

Wolfgang Schiemann, managing director of Eurogate CTB, said: “We are delighted about the new business. Our team has plenty of experience in handling such sensitive shipments. It’s a job that requires specialised knowhow.

“By virtue of surface area and geographic location, our site meets all the prerequisites for handling oversized wind turbine components and we have the necessary experience and qualifications. This is much appreciated by turbine manufacturers.
