Port of Rotterdam handles 500,000th import container via Secure Chain
NewsThe Port of Rotterdam has processed its 500,000th import container through the Secure Chain system.
With the US-made Dyna Dolly, an empty container can be moved on a public road without a trailer.
In the July 2018 print issue WorldCargo News reported on the Dyna Dolly Transport System, developed in the US by a company called Dyna Hauler. The Dyna Dolly enables a container to be transported on a road without a trailer, using the fifth wheel Dyna Dolly gooseneck system and a 3/4t to 1t pickup truck.
The Dyna Dolly XL unit is designed for the transport of 20ft to 53ft shipping containers that are in the standard width of 96 inches. The container loading process starts with a winch on the Dyna Dolly raising one end of the box, allowing the dolly unit to be rolled underneath. When the dolly gets near the centre of the container, the winch pulls the container to the gooseneck, where it is secured using twistlocks on the bottom corner castings.
WorldCargo News had earlier reported that the container can be towed behind the pickup, but not on a public road under US regulations. However, this is incorrect, and Jay Sams from Dyna Dolly agent Outlaw Trailers in Tennessee advises that Dyna Dolly “is legal in all states and is DOT certified.”
