Rail automation live in Australia
NewsQube commenced “normal automated operations” at the import/export terminal (IMEX) of the new Moorebank rail facility near Sydney in May and June this year.
Kalmar has announced two safety improvements to its SmartPort process automation portfolio.
The two new systems are Stack Profiling and Anti-Truck Lifting. They are integrated as options to the SmartStack and SmartLift products respectively and available separately.
SmartStack is Kalmar’s container position detection system for generating an automated yard inventory from the position of yard equipment as it stacks containers. The Stack Profiling System is a safety option that recognises the position of containers in the stack and automatically prevents a box being knocked over by the spreader as the crane operates. “Kalmar has used these measurement systems for some time on automated stacking cranes to help with inventory operations” it said.
The Anti-Truck Lifting option for SmartLift uses a laser-based detection system to prevent a crane lifting a chassis accidentally due to a locked or jammed chassis twistlock. The system will be fitted on six Kalmar E-One2 RTGs on order for PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) in Indonesia.
“With Kalmar SmartPort being both equipment and TOS independent, the stack profiling and anti-truck lifting options are available and can improve the safety at any terminal worldwide. These particular solutions are even available as an extension and improvement over already implemented process automation solutions” said Kalmar.
