Limassol gears up

In-Depth

As well testing straddle automation at Wilhelmshaven, Eurogate has bolstered the straddle fleet at its terminal in Limassol, Cyprus, which it started operating in early 2017.

Eurogate has increased the size of the fleet to 25 machines by bringing in 17 Kalmar units from Hamburg to join eight older Sisu machines that were already on site. All of the 17  Kalmar straddles are dieselelectric four-high machines,
built in 2008. The first 10 were shipped from Hamburg to Limassol at the end of January 2017, with the next seven following in March.

“The straddle carriers were loaded and professionally lashed by the breakbulk team in Hamburg,” explained Eurogate. “The first consignment was transported to Limassol on the SYMPHONY SEA, and the second was shipped on the MV ATLANTIC. In Cyprus, the straddle carriers were unloaded by the Hamburg breakbulk team and colleagues from the Technology Division, under the direction of breakbulk team manager Jürgen Gries.”
