DP World returns to Kalmar for more hybrid strads
NewsDP World inks deal with Kalmar for 14 new hybrid straddle carriers.
Bucking the national Portuguese and wider European trend, Sines handled 11% more cargo last year than in 2011, with traffic reaching 28.6 Mt. The port entered the European ports “Top 25” list for the first time, overtaking Dublin and Gdansk and, in terms of ports in the Iberian Peninsula, it is neck and neck with Huelva and just 1 Mt short of Bilbao.
Container traffic increased by 24% to 553,000 TEU, making it Europe’s secondleading port in terms of growth in this segment. It was beaten to the top spot by Gdansk and was just above Algeciras, where container traffic increased by 13% and overall throughput by 7.1% in 2012.
