Southampton modal shift program helps boost container moves by rail
NewsMore containers are moving through Southampton’s Solent Rail Terminal, the integrated handling and maintenance facility at the South of England port, owned by DP World.
Throughput at Southampton Container Terminals Ltd (SCT) has risen by almost 40 per cent in the past three years. It reached 1.38 mill TEU last year and is expected to grow another 11 per cent this year to 1.5 mill TEU. Installed capacity is about 1.6 mill TEU/year and the company aims to increase this to 2 mill TEU, to ensure it stays one step ahead of demand.
