New standards for cleaning facilities

Three Brussels-based organisations – the European Federation of Tank Cleaning Operators (EFTCO), the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) and the European Chemical Transport Association (ECTA) – have spearheaded efforts in recent years to bring some measure of standardisation to the cleaning of tanks across Europe.

Secondary goals of the initiative are to achieve an advanced quality level, to maintain high standards of environmental protection, to develop a wide-ranging understanding of the tank cleaning business and to ensure that an environment of fair competition prevails. The national tank cleaning associations of Belgium, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK are participating members of EFTCO, while other countries such as Germany are closely monitoring its efforts.
