CommTrac on the Mississippi

Peel Ports has completed an £8M extension to the dedicated animal feed warehouse used by global animal feed trader and stockholder, Arkady Feed Ltd, at the UK Port of Liverpool.

The Port of Tyne will install Autostore from Central Systems & Automation for container/resource management and CommTrac from DBIS for bulk/vessel management

Midstream bulk handling specialist Associated Terminals LLC in Louisiana has expanded its fleet of Gottwald floating cranes to seven machines with the acquisition of a Generation 5, Model 8 crane variant, a G HPK 8400 B. The new crane, says Gottwald, will be one of the highest performance floating bulk cranes on the Mississippi.

Mobile harbour crane numbers will be down this year, but the market is interesting all the same. It is too early, however, to speculate about what Terex Corp’s purchase of Fantuzzi Noell means for the future of Reggiane, or what Kirow Ardelt’s entry into the sector, with the Adler 500 (see WorldCargo News, June 2009, p1), could mean long term. For the time being, the company has said it is aiming at medium level bulk handling applications.

The 1000th harbour mobile crane to be built by Gottwald in the 50 years since it introduced them was commissioned last month at PD Teesport’s Tees Dock facility in England. With a rating of 100t x 11-24m/38t-50m, it is an HMK 330 EG normally associated with dedicated bulk handling, but in this case the crane has been built mainly to handle steel products for Corus.

The Port of South Louisiana has amended and extended an agreement for Associated Terminals, LLC to handle all transloading operations at the general cargo dock at the 335 acre Globalplex Intermodal Terminal in Reserve, Louisiana.
