US ports breathe sigh of relief as tariff exemption saves US$ 130m
NewsUS ports welcomed a crucial tariff exemption, saving them over US$ 130 million in unexpected costs on Chinese-made cranes.
Hanjin’s new facility in Busan shows that the benefits of automated stacking cranes are not confined to terminals designed with an “end loading” yard.
Hanjin New Port Co (HJNC) has now handled over 1M TEU at its new terminal at Phase 2-1 of Busan Newport since it began receiving vessels in February 2009. The terminal has three berths over 1100m of quay and a 66-ha yard area. Hanjin decided to implement automated stacking cranes (ASCs) to reduce running costs.
