LTG Cargo of Lithuania, PKP Cargo of Poland and LTG Cargo Polska (LTG’s Polish affiliate) have signed an agreement to provide intermodal services on a joint venture basis.

Lithuania’s Klaipedos Smelte, which is part of MSC’s terminal network through TIL, has forecast that it will handle between 320,000 and 350,000 TEU this year, almost double last year’s throughput of 180,000 TEU, and it is aiming to be a 1M TEU a year operator within the next few years.

On 27 March, history was made when the first container freight train was moved between India and Bangladesh. The train from the north-eastern Indian city of Kolkata to Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka carried 60 TEU, mainly containing animal feed and fast moving consumer goods. The return trip mainly transported containerised textiles and apparel.
