San Antonio Terminal Internacional (STI), Chile’s biggest container handler, has announced new investment of US$47M to increase its overall box handling capacity. This investment forms part of a package that will see its concession extended to 2030.

MSC claimed a new record in April when the MSC CAROLE departed from Valparaiso in Chile carrying 2,082 reefer contain ers, or 4,164 TEU. MSC said that was the “highest shipping record of reefer containers ever carried by MSC from Chile”, beating the nearly 3,540 TEU of reefer containers carried by the MSC MADHU B in March 2020.

Controversy has surfaced regarding the bidding process for the Port of Valparaíso’s Terminal 2 concession. Yasna Provoste, the senator representing Chile’s Atacama region, has asked the Comptroller General of the Republic to review what transpired.

Chile-based multinational SAAM has recently created a new ‘Operational Optimisation Management’ business unit, which forms part of its Port Terminals Division.

San Antonio Terminal Internacional (STI) has taken delivery of 11 Kalmar Ottawa T2 terminal trailers, built in the US. This brings STI’s terminal tractor fleet to 72 units. The newly delivered tractors have a GVW of 70t.
