3i, Europe’s leading venture capital company, has backed a management buy-in (MBI) of the Rosenlew packaging business from Finland’s UPM-Kymmene Corporation. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The world’s first fully automated paper reel loading and discharging system for rail cars is set to go live at the Port of Rauma and UPM-Kymmene’s Kajaani mill in February. It is expected to be the precursor to greater automation in paper exporting ports and lead to less handling by conventional clamp trucks.

Rauma Stevedoring is developing an automated rail wagon unloading system, together with VR Cargo and Tecniks, a state-funded technology company.
