Konecranes to supply hybrid RTGs for CMA CGM Kaohsiung Terminal
NewsKonecranes to supply five hybrid rubber-tired gantry cranes to CMA CGM Kaohsiung Terminal in Taiwan, with delivery set for mid-2025.
Taiwan has designated the ports of Keelung in the north and Taichung on the central coast as “offshore shipping centres.” They join the southern port of Kaohsiung, which was designated an offshore transhipment centre in 1997 to allow goods carried by Chinese mainland vessels to be processed in restricted zones outside Taiwan’s customs for onward shipment.
The opening of Taichung and Keelung to China trade could mean a reduction in transhipments over Hong Kong, which has been the main third-area port used due to Taiwan’s ban on direct links with the mainland, although the impact may not be significant in the short term as exports between China and Taiwan still have to transit a third area.
