Busan New Port unveils South Korea’s first fully automated container terminal

South Korea’s Pusan port is on course to remain the world’s thirdlargest container port this year, helped by a surge in transhipment cargo and the recovering economy.
Figures released by the Pusan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office show the country’s premier port handled 4.27 mill TEU in the first half of 2002, up 8.5 percent from the 3.93 mill handled in the same period last year. Export containers rose 1.5 percent to 1.27 mill TEU, import boxes 1.4 percent to 1.24 mill TEU and transhipments 23 per cent to 1.71 mill TEU.
