Hapag-Lloyd signs contract for 24 newbuildings
NewsHapag-Lloyd has contracted Chinese shipyards to build 24 new container ships, with a total capacity of 312,000 TEU, for US$ 4b, to be delivered by 2029.
Hapag-Lloyd and NYK Line have ended a near four-year working arrangement with China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) on the Asia/West Africa trade. In its place, the two carriers have joined up with Hong Kong-based Gold Star Line (GSL), a move that Hapag-Lloyd said gave it “better transit times, improved schedule reliability and calls at a larger number of ports”.
