Liverpool opens new intermodal site with Maritime Transport
NewsMaritime Transport UK opens a 2000 TEU storage facility at Port of Liverpool, England, to improve local delivery and international trade.
Capacity at the Port of Liverpool’s Royal Seaforth container terminal is being expanded with the addition of 5,000 extra ground slots. Work is scheduled for completion by the end of October.
Expansion of the terminal’s capacity comes on the back of strong growth and an immediate pay-off from a recent £1.1M investment in the port’s IT systems. Owner Peel Ports says an upgrade to the TOS, a new Wi-Fi network, activation of a new Global Positioning System (GPS) for the port’s straddle carriers and the roll-out of an in-house designed SMART Vehicle Booking System (SMART VBS), have already led to a 30% increase in vehicle turnaround times.
