USTR exempts STS crane orders arriving by May, 2026 from 25% tariff
NewsUnder new rules from the US Trade Representative, ship-to-shore cranes ordered before May 14, 2024, and arriving by May 14, 2026, will avoid a 25% tariff on imports from China.
Westport Innovations Inc of Vancouver, BC and Beijing Tianhai Industry Co Ltd (BTIC) have established a joint venture company to produce liquefied natural gas (LNG) vehicle fuel tanks. The new company, BTIC Westport Inc, is headquartered at BTIC’s new Beijing cryogenic facility.
China is committed to increased use of clean-burning natural gas in its energy mix and one initiative is to have a large fleet of LNG-powered commercial vehicles, including buses, in service in Beijing by the time of the 2008 Olympics. As part of its commitment to natural gas, China commissioned its first LNG import terminal near Shenzhen in April 2006. Plans are moving ahead to establish a string of such receiving terminals around the country’s coastline and to put them into service over the next four years.
