Hanjin Shipping has signed a 30-year lease with the Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport) for a new US$300M, 88-acre container terminal at Dames Point in north east Florida, which is expected to become operational in 2011.
The new facility, which will be located next to the TraPac Container Terminal, which is due to open in January 2009 to handle MOL vessels, is another setback for US west coast ports, which have been losing business as shipping lines focus on the east coast.
