MHC choices opening up
NewsThe market for MHCs is becoming more competitive, thanks to new technical solutions and new entrants.
The Georgian seaport of Poti plans to open phase 1 of a new container terminal, at Berth No. 14, before the end of this year. Up to now containers have been handled at Berth No. 7, which is 211m long and has a depth alongside of 8m. However, traffic has risen steadiliy in the past five years and bigger facilities were needed.
The Port’s commercial manager Eduard Machavariani said that the US$11M phase 1 project started in spring this year and focused on deepening berth No.14 to to 13m and other infrastructure developments. Two months ago, as previously reported, the berth was equipped with two Gottwald HMK 260 E mobile harbour cranes and two Kalmar front loaders have also been delivered.
