Latvian Railways (Latvijas Dzelcels) is planning to launch a new Riga-Moscow- Riga container service from this month. In Soviet times, 95 percent of cargo arriving at Riga was shipped to consignees by rail. Today the same amount of cargo leaves the Riga Freeport in trucks due to lower transport costs.
