Construction of Burnaby rail overpass to begin in late 2024

The port of Vancouver in Washington State is seeking Statements of Interest (SOIs) from companies that want to develop a new bulk facility. The port is offering the opportunity to develop a new facility on approximately 40 acres at Terminal 5. The site was previously part of a planned 100-acre facility to be developed by BHP Billiton to handle potash from the Jansen Mine in Saskatchewan. That project is now on hold, and BHP’s agreement lapsed by mutual agreement in 2014. The port is now pursuing
The port is offering the opportunity to develop a new facility on approximately 40 acres at Terminal 5. That project is now on hold, and BHP’s agreement lapsed by mutual agreement in 2014. The port is now pursuing new opportunities for the site.
“The port is open to a diverse commodity group that could include dry bulk, liquid bulk, autos and other commodities that will take advantage of this premium rail-served location,” said the port authority. “Terminal 5 features a loop track that allows unit trains to be handled within the port’s internal rail complex. An 8,500ft-long loop track was designed to accommodate multiple unit trains carrying a variety of dry and liquid bulk cargoes. There is also room to add two arrival/departure tracks in the corridor.”
Located on the Columbia-Snake River System, the port has five marine terminals and 13 berths that currently handle over 6 Mtpa. The access channel is dredged to 43ft. Vancouver USA is linked to the US Midwest by two Class I railroads, BNSF and Union Pacific. Final submissions of SOIs are due by 23 December 2016.
