US ports breathe sigh of relief as tariff exemption saves US$ 130m
NewsUS ports welcomed a crucial tariff exemption, saving them over US$ 130 million in unexpected costs on Chinese-made cranes.
Eurogate is negotiatng with ZPMC to buy eight cranes capable of handling ships up to 18,000 TEU for the new Jade Weser Port (JWP) container port. Although no such ships have yet been ordered, several carriers, including Maersk, which has a 30% stake in JWP and is expected to be an anchor client, are known to be considering them. Eurogate’s managing director Emanuel Schiffer said the cranes will be capable of handing a 25-wide deck stow.
