Maersk Line is using the Mediterranean Intermodal Terminal Operator (MITO) facility in Cagliari (Sardinia) as one of its cargo distribution centres for parts of northern Africa.

The deadline to submit RFPs for the concession to operate Cagliari International Container Terminal (CICT) has slipped again, this time to 31 August

The decision to close follows Hapag-Lloyd’s decision last year to switch various services to TangerMed. CICT has been unable to replace this loss with new business

At 2.31M TEU, MCT Gioia Tauro was off a further 5.7%, whilst CICT Cagliari was off a massive 49.4%, handling just 219,000 TEU

A workshop including an extensive Q & A session has been held at Cagliari International Container Terminal

Results are, as usual, mixed, but there is definitely a “head of steam” building for some terminal operators.
