Successful outcome in Chinese box scam

After lengthy legal action, Hong Kongbased box lessor Lotus Containers has recovered outstanding rental fees on 230 20ft dry freight containers, as well as the full value of 120 20ft units, which were stolen by a Chinese shipping company after being supplied under a long term lease agreement.

As reported in the May 2009 issue of WorldCargo News (p1), Lotus supplied 350 20ft containers in September 2008 to Dalian Minghui Shipping Agency Co Ltd (DMS). The contractually agreed security deposit of US$310 per container was paid by New Onto Shipping International, which also paid the rental invoice for the same month.
