Speculation is mounting that Tranz Rail (TR)’s 4000 km rail network will be renationalised. In the 1990s New Zealand (NZ) was hailed as a model of privatisation but the worm has turned. The government has already bailed out the national airline, opened a new bank and re-established the state as the monopoly insurer for worker compensation.
