A study on longer and/or heavier freight trains (LHT) by Panteia/NEA on behalf of the UIC has been completed. The study provides a snapshot of LHT operations across the world, assesses the technical and operational challenges and provides recommendations for implementing LHTs, defined as trains with a trailing weight of more than 3500t and/or more than 750m long, on European and wider international corridors.
