Kalmar has developed an all-electric straddle carrier (ESC) design, with one 4-high unit being tested at TCB, Barcelona and another with twinlift spreader already sold to Maher Terminals, New Jersey.

Kalmar’s acquisition of Nelcon provided it with the HS electrical straddle carrier, but its Finnish engineers concluded that the design could be refined by combining the electrical drive with its own structural and drive train designs, to produce a robust and price-competitive machine. The HS will still be available, but probably for existing clients who wish to keep fleet continuity.
