Transhipment volumes at Port Klang, Malaysia’s top container port, rose one third to 2 mill TEUin the first 10 months of this year, “We are expecting things to be even better next year,” Transport Minister Ling Liong Sik said.

Volumes for the remaining two months are expected to be higher due to festive season shipments to the US and Europe, Ling said. The port handled more than 410,000 TEU in October alone. Elsewhere in Malaysia, Malaysia Mining Corp (MMC) has won shareholder approval to take a 50 percent stake in the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), which currently boasts Maersk Sealand and Evergreen as its major clients.
