CTAA: Port of Melbourne hit by congestion following DP World IT issues
NewsThe Port of Melbourne is grappling with landside congestion following IT issues at DP World’s West Swanson Terminal this week.
As briefly reported in last month’s WorldCargo News (p11), a consortium of DP World and Uniport of Bilbao, Spain has been granted a 30 year concession to develop and operate a new container terminal in the southern zone of the Port of Callao, Peru. The concession has been awarded by Proinversion, the state agency that promotes private investment. DP World will own 70% of the new company through P&O, with the balance held by Uniport via a local subsidiary, Unimar.
The new facility will initially be constructed along 660m of quay, equipped with four cranes, and 22 hectares of CY. Depending on the timing of the relevant permits and approvals, it could be operational in the second half of 2009. Further development will be phased in line with demand growth. Total capacity is projected to reach 1.35M TEU.
