AIG forms Ports America

The planned development of Louisiana International Terminal (LIT) downstream of the Port of New Orleans on the Mississippi River has received another financial boost, with it securing over US$226M in new federal funding.

APM Terminals (APMT)has finally agreed a deal with Plaquemines Port Harbor and Terminal District to help build and operate a new container terminal in Plaquemines Parish on the west bank of the Mississippi River about 20 miles south of New Orleans.

The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) is to receive US$73.77M from the federal government to support the development of its Louisiana International Terminal (LIT). LIT is to be built as the port’s new container gateway and to facilitate cargo movements on the Mississippi River and inland waterways of the United States.

The District Attorney has filed a lawsuit claiming the Port of New Orleans does not have jurisdiction to build a new container terminal in St. Bernard District

After a previous LOI with Yilport did not result in an agreement, Gulfport Mississippi has announced a new operating agreement with Ports America that includes exclusive use of the port’s existing STS cranes.

Ro-ro is particularly exposed to a hard Brexit, and high-friction borders would be a disaster for accompanied freight.
